DETAILED ITENARY
Day 1 - Saturday 17 May 2025
After your scenic ferry ride, you will finally arrive on Mull and are probably eager to dive straight into your first afternoon of photography. With check-in not happening until after 4 PM, we've got plenty of time to explore the stunning landscapes and wildlife around us. Our main quest? Spotting otters and, if we’re lucky, catching a glimpse of the elusive short-eared owls that call this Isle home. The excitement is palpable as we grab our cameras and set off, ready to capture the beauty of this magical place.
Day 2 - Sunday 18 May 2025
After a really long day yesterday, we can have a bit of a lie in and get up as early (or as late) as we like this morning. Once we're all set and ready to go, we'll venture out in the mid-morning or afternoon for another round of wildlife photography. Otters is our main focus again today but we are always on the lookout for other species too - and there is always a lot going on in Mull.
Day 3 - Monday 19 May 2025
Today, we're planning to head out bright and early, even before breakfast, in our quest to hone in on our otter photography! We should already know some spots, so this morning will be all about perfecting the techniques and getting awesome shots of the playful otters. There's something so exciting about the idea of catching a glimpse of these playful creatures in their natural habitat. After our morning adventure, we'll swing back to the property to refuel.
Once we're all set and ready to go again, we'll embark on an exhilarating journey towards the Mull Charter Boats for an unforgettable three hours with the majestic eagles. This is a private charter, meaning it will be just us on board, creating a truly intimate and thrilling experience.
Day 4 - Tuesday 20 May 2025
While the details are not yet complete, today is the day we have set aside for Lunga. This should be a 6-hour journey which includes time on route looking for various species and then some time on the actual island photographing puffins and other sea birds. If time permits we will once again be on the lookout for the otters of this region, be that early in the morning or in the late afternoon.
Day 5 - Wednesday 21 May 2025
This is our final morning together and while we hope to have one more go with the otters it will depend hugely on where they have been found and everyone's travel arrangements. We will be flexible on this final morning
Tuition, Field Craft, Techniques
Besides the one scheduled editing sessions on day 3, there will be continuous tips and advice on Photography, Lightroom, Photoshop and Field Craft and we will also learn about the animals we encounter from our host. I encourage everyone to listen and learn during the tuition sessions and a laptop isn't essential, as the host will have their own, meaning you can make the most of this opportunity whilst still keeping your luggage light. A recording of what is covered during these sessions, will be made available after the trip.
What to bring (this will not be provided by your host)
Your photographic equipment - check recommendations
Any medication you may need for the duration of the tour.
Unless there is a huge downpour, we will still continue to photograph in the rain as this can produce amazing photos.
Please bring what you would consider to be suitable clothing. Of course, no one will be forced to be in the rain, if they don't want to be.
Optional: Tripod/Monopod
Walking during the workshop
Usually, there isn't much walking when we're snapping photos of wildlife on Mull. The only time you'll need to stretch your legs a bit is on Lunga. There, you'll have a short stroll across a rocky beach and then about a 15-minute walk along some cliff paths - we will take it easy and be cautious, but generally it is safe. For this and for the trip in general, be sure to bring a good pair of walking boots! We will be walking across a rocky area on Lunga
Transportation and Parking
Transportation to and from Mull is excluded. The house has some free parking available, but you may need to leave your vehicle in the street if that is all taken.
