Tuition, Field Craft, Techniques

I will be available all the time to discuss any techniques, camera setting or field craft that you may need help with. Two sessions are given to help everyone with the aspects of this photography trip - a technical session on Day 2 to prepare you for the photographic sessions and a post-processing session on Day 4 to help you think about how you will edit your photos and produce your final images.

What to bring (this will not be provided by your host)

  • Your photographic equipment - check recommendations

  • Any medication you may need for the duration of the tour.

  • We will be sheltered by the hides, so adverse weather is not something we need to be concerned with, but please bring what you would consider to be suitable clothing.

Walking during the workshop

There may be very little walking to reach the hides and you may want to explore some of the areas close to the lodging, on foot. Apart from this, there should be no further strenuous walking.

  • We will meet at Kristiansand Airport, Norway where we expect to leave at around 19:00. We will travel by rental car directly to our accommodation (a journey of about 1 hour)

On the last day, we will depart from our accomodation at around 11:00 and will look to be in Kristiansand Airport at around 12:30

  • This obviously depends on where you leave from, and the flights may change. The flight that I will use is as follows:

    • Wednesday, Jan 29 : London Heathrow - Kristiansand (11:45 - 17:35)

    • Sunday, Feb 2 : Kristiansand - London Heathrow (18:05 - 20:50)

  • No need to hire a car. Transportation from the airport and to the hides is included. Also, our host will take us to the shops to purchase any food and groceries.

  • Anything from 300-500mm will work for this tour, not forgetting an extender for additional reach. You may want to bring some additional lenses if you would like to do other forms of photography.

  • A tripod or a bean bag can be used in the hides

  • You should budget for your flight, snacks for the hide, drinks for the hide and anything else that you would like to buy of a personal nature.

  • All meals are included. We will stop at the stores on the way in and purchase food for the group which we will then cook together. Lunch is eaten at the hides so probably best to make sandwiches. You should purchase any snack you would like for the hide sessions.

  • At this time of year we expect a reasonable to heavy amount of snow. This means that the days and (especially) the nights can be quite cold. However the hides have heating and the accomodation is well insulated from the cold as is normal in these Norwegian houses.

    • Average temperatures: -5 to 3 degC

    • Snowfall: 100-200mm
